Indigo proudly supports the Lighthouse Construction Industry Charity with an annual donation. Being a company supporter is important to us as the charity’s mission and goals strive to help the people that we work and do business with.
Lighthouse is the only charity that provides emotional, physical and financial wellbeing support to the construction community and their families. A crucial element of the charity’s strategy is to provide a wide range of free and widely available proactive resources to support the industry.
Today is widely considered to be “Blue Monday”, the third Monday in January allegedly being the most depressing day of the year. However, there is no scientific evidence to support this theory according to Mind*, and therefore the concept of Blue Monday is really a myth. People can experience depression and other issues that affect their wellbeing at any time, and Lighthouse are always on hand to help.
The charity offers a free and confidential 24/7 Construction Industry Helpline and text HARDHAT service which provides a range of information, guidance and support on a huge variety of wellbeing issues. These services are complemented by their free Self Support App which offers another route to support, along with a live chat service.
Lighthouse’s vision is that no construction worker or their family should be alone in a crisis. Their mission is to reduce construction workforce suicides, to improve industry welfare and wellbeing for this generation and the next, and to make wellbeing support visible and accessible for all in construction.
In 2022**, more people than ever reached out to Lighthouse for help and they supported 3,421 families through difficult and challenging times, which was an increase of 23% on the previous year. Their caseworkers managed 1,976 complex cases, where multiple interventions were required to support those people who had a number of complex issues including financial difficulties, homelessness, family breakdowns and domestic abuse. They also delivered 1,753 virtual and face-to-face counselling sessions, which focused primarily on emotional wellbeing and supported workers with issues such as bereavement, relationship breakdowns and anger management.
Lighthouse’s new “Make It Visible” initiative has been hugely successful and has enabled them to visit 173 sites and engage with almost 9,000 site operatives across the UK and Ireland.
All the points above are great reasons why we continue to support Lighthouse and the fantastic work that they do within the industry.
